Finale stretches from Capo Noli to the promontory of Caprazoppa in a dolomitic limestone environment characterized by a series of plateaus with their soaring cliffs by lush Mediterranean vegetation and separated by valleys ,which rise above the coast with amazing views of the sea below. The area, which presents a condition of geological insularity, is characterized by a remarkable variety of karst phenomena, among which are the caves, over 100, some of which, frequented since prehistory, document an uninterrupted human presence in the area since The ‘Neanderthal age The area around Finale Ligure has Mediterranean and hilly environments of the best preserved in Liguria. In the alternation of woods, stains, scrubland and cultivated fields can be seen a high amount of plant species paleomediterranee, some of which are rare and endemic, as well as a good number of wild orchids, and you can admire the wealth of historical memories from different ages present in the area. The fauna is typically Mediterranean, and includes a wide variety of species, among which deserve special mention the magnificent Ocellated Lizard (Timon lepidus), here at the eastern limit of its distribution, and many species of birds, some of which are protected by international conventions, to which Finale is recognized by the International Birdlife Association I.B.A .(Important Bird Area). Because of its rich natural value, the area was included in the Natura 2000 Network of the European Community as S.I.C. (Site of Cominitario) “Finale-Capo Noli”. The Finale area is crisscrossed by a good network of footpaths,which is very popular with climbers, cavers lovers of mountain biking as well as hikers and allows ring day trips with a chance of a meal of local specialties, or reach the Colle del Melogno and Monte Carmo in the Ligurian Alps in a 3-day excursion.
